Meditation for Everyone

Hello Dear Readers: this is a love note.

First for our Sur-Thriving news! As of March 11th, 2023, I am now a certified Meditation Teacher and offer group meditations, and individual meditation coaching sessions. Over the next few months, I will be partnering with organizations to offer in-house open meditation and informative meditation sessions.

But this blog post isn’t about my services. What I wanted to share with you is what I wasn’t expecting to learn during my three months with Boston Buddha in their meditation teacher training.

Attributed to Buddha, “When the student is ready the teacher will appear.” Well, I must have been real ready, because I received SEVEN wise teachers including Andy Kelley, who is an amazing teacher, guide and all-around wonderful person. The knowledge I gained from taking the Meditation for Everyone class and Teachers Certification is vast. I am honored to have been taught by such an experienced teacher. Hey… anyone who rubbed elbows with Deepak Chopra and davidji is alright with me. I know I found a mentor, which is a great feeling as I have been seeking one for a long time.

The other six teachers… this is where the real education came from. The lessons in humility, compassion, strength, and tenacity made this a truly priceless experience. I don’t know what I expected when I signed up for this class on a whim - some basics, some tools and techniques, and possibly a bit of research to go about and spout off when asked (no worries readers, I got all that science). While I got all that, what I didn’t expect was to sit alongside Bodhisattvas gaining the type of knowledge that you can’t get from a workshop, class, or book. People laid down their life experiences and honored us all with their stories. This course was an act of kismet for some, but a lifeline for me.

I learned how to sit, I learned that I am still not sure “who I am, what I want, and what is my Dharma,” though I feel closer to those answers. I learned to listen more than I spoke, I learned to trust strangers, and that it is still possible to make friends in your 40s. Kindred spirits took cushions and blue meditation chairs and shared pieces of themselves that multiplied so none were left empty. I can only hope that my story and experiences added to the atmosphere of guiding light. Now, I am not here to paint a picture of holy people sitting under the Bodhi tree. These were what I would call “real folk.” Brilliantly messy and beautifully flawed. These were Sur-Thrivers. I never laughed so much or shed tears without embarrassment during a colloquium, though I recommend the experience.

In this writing, I am not going to give the names of these merry meditators, but on my recommendation page you may find the businesses, practices, and passion projects of a few of these kind folk - I always recommend checking this page out. I do recommend Boston Buddha for anyone seeking corporate meditation courses, school-aged mindfulness activities, and personal guided practice and R3BLT gym in Milton, Massachusetts for some really fantastic fitness, nutrition, and holistic options. I highly recommend standing on the vibrating plate - your life will be changed! If my new friends become readers, know that I thank you and I am honored to have you in my orbit. I look forward to book club.

Thank you, dear reader, for listening to my story, and to those who don’t currently meditate, I hope your interest has at least been piqued. My experience may not be duplicated, but it’s not unique. There is a Kula for us all, we just need to be ready to seek our teachers.

My dear readers, May you be healthy. May you be safe. May you be loved.

In lovingkindness,

Krystal Linn, RMT, CHt, CLC
